The UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons passes into legal force

At #InvestingInChange we’re celebrating today, because the UN’s Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (#TPNW) is passing into legal force!

The Treaty prohibits nations from developing, testing, producing, manufacturing, transferring, possessing, stockpiling, using or threatening to use nuclear weapons, or allowing nuclear weapons to be stationed on their territory. It also prohibits them from assisting, encouraging or inducing anyone to engage in any of these activities.

The UK hasn’t signed the Treaty yet, but we’re sure that the TPNW will shift the discourse about nuclear weapons: no longer viewed as legitimate and necessary, states which continue to maintain nuclear arsenals despite the majority of the world’s nations supporting the TPNW will be seen as outliers endangering international security.

If you think it’s important that your money isn’t invested into these now internationally banned weapons of mass destruction, why not write to your bank or pension provider to let them know about the change in international law? We’ve updated our e-actions to include the TPNW, so it’s really easy.
